We are making progress.
The good news is that the organized strategy we have used to restore power is paying off today with high restoration numbers. So far today, nearly 1,000 members have been restored, and we’re expecting several hundred more by sundown. This will continue throughout the night. We have currently restored more than half of the 8,000 members who were offline at the peak of this devastating ice storm. Also, the weather is cooperating for the time being.
The bad news is we have poles and many miles of lines down in such quantities that the process to reset poles and restring power lines just takes time in the aftermath of such destruction and saturated ground. Also, broken tree limbs and brush have to be removed first before any restoration can commence. There isn’t a way to hurry these processes along and ensure safety and reliability.
For some members, it could be as long as another two to four days before we have them restored. We can’t determine which members will specifically be out the shortest or the longest. With that said, no one is resting until everyone has power.
What can members do?
Keep us informed of your outage situation. Remember, as we restore primary lines, the outage management system may note that the area is restored, but that the individual tap lines serving members/meters might have to be re-reported. If you are out, but you see on the outage map that you have been restored, call us or text us from your cell number and let us know. Your cell number has to be the number you registered on your account.
Outage map is here, and a hardhat indicates a crew is working the outage: http://outage.united-cs.com:7576/ Members can use Outage Texting to report outages. Text OUT to 85700 from the mobile phone connected to the account. To register your mobile number, contact your local United office or or follow this link to sign up online (ow.ly/z0Fj30iwZxN).
If you can’t text, call one of the numbers. Because of high call volume, please leave your account number and address on the recording:
Possum Kingdom 940-779-2985
If you see lines down, stay far away and let us know. If you are using a generator, use it safely. We have posted some tips. If you have appliances you have forgotten to turn off after the power went out, please attend to these items as soon as possible.
Keep the linemen in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to give you the best service they can to restore you as quickly as safely possible.
